Eating pine nuts can have unpleasant consequences. Perhaps this is not the most obvious start of a sales text aimed at selling this product, but we want to save you from PNS, because then nothing tastes like you anymore.
PNS or Pine Nut Syndrome is caused by pine nuts from conifers that are found in China and other Asian countries. These are the following varieties: P. armandii, Pinus bungeana, Pinus massoniana, Pinus pinea, Pinus wallichiana, Pinus koraiensis, Pinus pumila, Pinus sibirica, Pinus cembra. If you are sensitive to this, you can suffer from this syndrome, after which everything you eat afterwards has a metallic taste, if you taste anything at all. It will pass, but it may take a few weeks. If you are curious about the seam of the stocking in the field of PNS, we have here a detailed study for you.
Unfortunately, almost all pine nuts that you can buy in the Netherlands come from China. This is often stated on the packaging, but by no means always. Fortunately, you can recognize them because they are smaller and have a dark point.
Azienda Campobasso's pine nuts come from Italy, so you are not at risk of PNS. Moreover, they are really much tastier and fortunately also a lot more expensive.
